Fish landing centre building in Cox’s Bazar tilts
7 July 2015, Nirapad News: The three- storey building of the fish landing centre of Bangladesh Fish Development Corporation tilted towards the Bakkhali river on Monday night.
The fish landing centre that had been built in the 60s has not seen reconstruction work since then.
Fishermen of the district used it as a jetty of their boats to send fish to market.
Md Shoriful Islam, director of the Fish Landing Centre, said the fish landing centre ‘Fishery Market’ had been built in the 1965-66 fiscal year.
In May, 2012, flood washed away all the stairs and mud around the pillars of the landing centre, he added.
Recently, mud around the fish landing centre building was washed away by heavy current of the Bakkhali River forcing it to tilt towards the river around 8.00pm.
Mohammad Ali Hossain, deputy commissioner of Cox’s Bazar, said the administration has taken emergency steps to shift the people from the area to a safer place.
