Flourishing abilities of autistic children underscored
09 December 2015, Nirapad News: Proper care and extending supports could flourish inherent talents and abilities of the autistic and intellectually disabled children in the process of their mainstreaming with the society.
The views were expressed at the concluding ceremony of an orientation workshop styled ‘Creating Awareness on Right to Education of Children with Autism’ held at Dinajpur Sadar upazila parishad auditorium in Dinajpur town on Tuesday afternoon.
Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Secondary Education Office organised the workshop under financial support of the Establishment of Autistic Academy Project being implemented by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
A total of 100 participants, including 10 union parishad chairmen, 50 teachers, 18 government officials, two NGO representatives, two Imams, ten guardians, four female upazila parishad members, two journalists and two civil society members, took part.
Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdur Rahman and Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Chairman Alhaj Faridul Islam presided over the inaugural and concluding ceremonies of the workshop respectively.
Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Secondary Education Officer Kondork Narayan Roy and Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Health Officer Dr Emdadul Haque took part as resource persons in the workshop.
Assistant Professor (Guidance & Counseling) of Rangpur Government Teachers’ Training College and Master Trainer on Autism, Neuro-Development Disability of the Project Rawshan Alam conducted the workshop as the Chief Master Trainer.
The experts narrated about various steps taken by the government for welfare of the autistic children to flourish their inherent talents through ensuring proper education, nurturing and providing them with opportunities to turn them into worthy citizens.
They termed the autistic and intellectually disabled children as the integral parts of the whole society and said that these children with special needs equally deserve their proper constitutional rights but not mercy and they must get all privileges.
The UNO urged the participants for ensuring proper care with attention in flourishing inherent talents of the autistic children through providing opportunities for education in congenial atmosphere, normal mental and physical growths.
In his concluding speech, Alhaj Md Faridul Islam put importance on ensuring proper education for the autistic children as many of them have already proved abilities and talents in education, sports and extracurricular activities, like the common children.
