FM to lead BD delegation to CHOGM
23 November 2015, Nirapad News: Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali will lead the Bangladesh delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2015) to be held in Malta.
He will also attend the Pre-CHOGM Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting and other events to be held on Wednesday-Thursday, said a Foreign Ministry media release on Monday.
Foreign Ministers from 52 member-states will discuss global political and economic developments and issues of common interest such as implementation of SDGs, migration and climate change.
They will also review the reports to be submitted to the heads of government during the CHOGM from the Commonwealth Secretary General and different Commonwealth bodies as well as various Commonwealth Associated and Civil Society organisations.
The Foreign Minister may also have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the Commonwealth member-states on the sidelines of CHOGM 2015.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina cancelled her Malta tour considering the overall situation both at home and in Europe.
Malta, an island state in the Mediterranean Sea which served throughout history as a bridge between North Africa and Europe, will host the meeting for the second time, having successfully done so in 2005.
The CHOGM-2015 will seek Commonwealth’s renewed focus on combating the adverse impacts of climate change, violent extremism and migration, besides support to small states and sustainable development.
