Foreigners enjoy hartal, says Nasim
2 February 2015, Nirapad News: While millions of people across the country are suffering due to continuous blockade and shutdowns, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim today said foreigners enjoy hartal.
His comment came in a press conference organised to announce the International Conference on AIDS in Asia and Pacific to be held in Dhaka in November.
Nasim said, “UNAIDS Country Director of Bangladesh, Leo Kenny said ‘Happy Hartal’ before the commencement of this briefing.”
Nasim, also a presidium member of the ruling Awami League, said the conference is expected to be attended by health ministers of 26 countries and approximately 3,000 foreign delegates.
The minister also called upon the opposition parties not to enforce such programmes during the conference to be held on November 20-23.
In response to reporters’ questions on whether he apprehends that the opposition parties will continue the movement till November, the health minister said, “No one needs a reason to call for shutdowns in Bangladesh; hartal can be called whenever one wishes.”
