Four ISIS members arrested including Bangladesh Chief in Dhaka
19 January 2015, Nirapad News : Police claim to arrest four ISIS’s (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) members including the organisation’s chief coordinator in Bangladesh. They were arrested from Dhaka’s Jatrabari and Khilkhet areas early on Monday.
Detective Branch’s Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman told that a laptop and ISIS leaflets have been recovered from them. They seized a huge quantity of leaflets, videos on militant training, four mobile phone sets, one CPU, 8 software disks, 2 hard disks, three pen drives, five rams, 3 CD rom, one passport (E-0770162), photocopy of a passport (E-1928825) after the name of Kabir and one visa application form of Pakistani embassy from their possession.
Sheikh Nazmul Alam, deputy commissioner of DMP (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) at a press briefing held at DMP media centre today confirmed their arrest, saying, “The arrestees confessed their links to the ISIS”. The victims are identified as Shakhawatul Kabir, Anwar Hossain, Rabiul Islam and Nazrul Islam.
Sakhawat, an English department student of Titumir College in Dhaka, joined the IS in Pakistan in 2009 and fought for the group there. He is now working as coordinator of IS Bangladesh chapter. He was an active operative of the banned Islamic outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh since 2006.
DB Inspector Md Abu Zafar said that Kabir’s brother-in-law Shamim and Baten’s brother Sayem lives in Pakistan and they are members of ISIS. The two had given Kabir the responsibility to work as ISIS’s chief coordinator in Bangladesh.
Kabir has been frequently traveling to India, Pakistan and other countries.After returning to the country from Pakistan, Sakhawat has started recruiting IS operatives in Bangladesh.
A case was filed against those arrested in this regard. Police appealed to the court with a prayer for 10 days reman and the court put it for 5 days.
