Freedom fighters should be honoured: Mayor Jhantu
23 December 2015, Nirapad News: Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has said the nation should pay due honour to the freedom fighters (FFs), the best sons and daughters of the soil, to uphold spirit of the War of Liberation.
Jhantu, also a valiant freedom fighter, said this while an accord reception to ten valiant freedom fighters at a ceremony organised by ‘Boiragipara Ekota Setubandhan (BES)’ in Boiragipara area in the city today as the chief guest.
Presided over by President of BES Rafikul Alam, City Councilors Hafiz Ahamed Chhuttu and Hasna Banu, social workers Nazmul Alam and Ashraful Alam Al-Amin attended the ceremony as the special guests.
Valiant freedom fighters Jashim Uddin, Khurshid-E-Alam, Mamtaz Parveen, Anoaruzzaman, Pabitra Nath Das, Chakradhan Barman, General Secretary of BES Mohammad Azad and its Advisor Dhiman Bhattacharya, also spoke on the occasion.
In his speech, the City mayor said the freedom fighters never thought of getting something in return while they were fighting against the well-trained Pakistani occupation forces to liberate the country.
He called upon all concerned for upholding the true spirit of the War of Liberation through building an exploitation-free non- communal Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Jhantu asked all concerned for taking the responsibility of standing beside the freedom fighters as they liberated the country from the clutches of the Pakistani army and brought independence, freedom, dignity and pride for the nation.
Later, he distributed prizes among the brilliant students who got GPA-5 in the last SCC and HSC examinations and winners of the cultural competitions organised by BES at the same venue on the occasion of observance of the Victory Day- 2015.
