German buyers would not give any concession on workers safety issues
1 March 2015, Nirapad News: German Ambassador to Dhaka, Dr. Ferdinand von Weyhe said on Sunday that, German buyers would not give any concession on physical, emotional and work place safety issues of workers.
He made the assertion while addressing an inauguration ceremony of ‘Denims and Jeans Show’ arranged at Hotel Radisson in the city at noon.
The envoy said that Germany is one of the big buyers of the garment industry of Bangladesh. So, we want to maintain good relations with entrepreneurs of the country.
He added: “But we must pay attention to the status of the workers who made the garments which we wear. We will never give concessions on workers’ safety issues in excuse of low price of product.”
Ferdinand von Weyhe said the factories which will ensure social, environmental and other security of workers will get priority in attaining export orders. He said many factories have taken various measures to ensure workers’ safety. We would like to appreciate it.
