German envoy Prinz meets Foreign Minister
14 May 2015, Nirapad News: The newly appointed Ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh Dr. Thomas Prinz met for the first time with Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at the Foreign Ministry in city Wednesday.
During his visit to the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Prinz also met with State Minister Shahriar Alam, says a press release issued by the German embassy.
In his meeting, Ambassador Prinz emphasized the long friendship between Bangladesh and Germany mentioning that Germany was among the first countries to recognize Bangladesh’s independence after 1971.
“Since then our two countries have had close political and economic relations. Given that Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali has served as Ambassador in Germany I am particularly looking forward to further strengthen our bond”, Ambassador Prinz said after the meeting.
He also took the opportunity to communicate an official invitation by the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to his Bangladeshi counterpart to visit Berlin.
In his conversation with the Foreign Minister, Ambassador Prinz stressed the importance of strong business ties.
“Last year Bangladesh and Germany had a trade volume of more than 4.5 billion Euros per year. We need to continue to promote our bilateral trade by fostering dynamic business models. This also means ensuring the sustainable management of supply chains by guaranteeing worker’s rights, fair wages, safe working conditions and high environmental standards.”
The German ambassador also emphasized that both western buyers and local producers have a responsibility to work towards achieving these ambitious goals.
After his meeting Prinz also mentioned the successful development cooperation between Bangladesh and Germany.
The strong relations between Germany and Bangladesh are also highlighted by the increasing number of Bangladeshi students in Germany, the release added.
