Germen assures BD of its continued support
7 October 2015, Nirapad News: Voicing satisfaction over development in Bangladesh’s garment sector, visiting German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Dr Gerd Muller said his country wants to continue to help Bangladesh for its textile sector development.
The German Minister came up with the assurance when he met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban.
PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said the German Minister said Bangladesh has improved a lot in fire and labour protection in the RMG sector.
In response, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the foreign buyers to raise the prices of Bangladesh apparels which will ultimately help the workers get better wages.
She also said the present government after coming to power in 2009 increased the wages of the RMG workers more than 200 percent, as her party’s policy is to promote the country’s workers and farmers.
The German Minister called Bangladesh as the favourite partner of his country and emphasised cooperation in various sectors, including energy and leather.
Sheikh Hasina south German support in expanding solar power in Bangladesh and urged for increasing its investment in here.
She also invited German Chancellor Angela Markel to visit Bangladesh at her convenient time.
PM’s Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi and Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were, among others, present during the meeting.
