24 February 2015, Nirapad News: Government has asked the Election Commission to organise polls in the Dhaka City Corporation amid the ongoing political unrest. A gazette regarding the resolution of the complexities over demarcation was also sent to the EC on Monday afternoon.

“We have received the request. The commission will take the next decisions,” EC Secretary Md Sirajul Islam told the press. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad and Secretary Islam left for home from their office after receiving the government letter around 5:45pm on Monday.

The EC secretary confirmed that they had received the gazettes with the demarcation of the two city corporations. CEC Ahmad said, “The secretary will now talk about this. I will let you know at the appropriate time.”

Election Commission officials said the LGD letter was signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Saroj Kumar Nath on behalf of Secretary Monzur Hossain. The letter asked the EC to take the ‘necessary steps’ to organise the balloting and had copies of the two gazette notifications attached.
