Govt controlling judiciary: Mirza Fakhrul
07 February 2016, Nirapad News: BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday accused the government of indulging in fascist activities and controlling the judiciary.
“Murders, enforced disappearance and abductions have marked a sharp rise as the government has been in office by force. They’re carrying out fascist acts by controlling the judiciary,” he said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at Sylhet city and district units’ party council at Shaheed Soleman Hall of Muslim Sahittya Sangsad in the city.
He said that the government was being alienated from people and increasingly resorting to repressive acts to subdue people in a bid to consolidate its power.
Accusing the government of besieging democracy, Fakhrul said, “The country is now in a great danger. It’s the high time to save the country from this situation.”
He called upon his party colleagues to get united and make BNP stronger to restore democracy under the leadership of party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“It’s possible to oust this regime through a strong movement at the grassroots level. BNP after reorganising the party will wage a movement together with people to restore people’s rights and democracy.”
Fakhrul said the government would not be able to eliminate BNP through repressive acts. “Instead, BNP will get stronger gradually with people’s support.”
The council of Sylhet city and district units is being held after seven years as the last council was held in 2009. New committees of the two BNP units will be elected at the council through the direct votes of 132 councillors.
