Govt created 192 posts to provide proper legal assistance: Anisul
06 March 2016, Nirapad News: Law Minister Anisul Huq today said the government has created 192 posts at legal offices of 64 districts to provide legal assistance to people at every level.
“The government under the National Legal Aid Services Organization has introduced legal aid offices in 64 districts and created 192 posts to mitigate hardships of the poor litigants,” he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on providing legal assistance to litigants at city’s CIRDAP auditorium organised by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF).
“The legal aid offices are responsible to provide free legal services and advice to poor and helpless people and this has been a major achievement of the present government,” he added.
“Despite being established as legal organization, due to lack of human resources and offices in the previous years, the government’s legal aid services have been tremendously hindered,” he said adding, “the present government, after assuming power, has made the organization instrumental in delivering legal aid services to the poor and helpless people.”
Joint Secretary (administration) Bikash Kumar Shaha of Law and Justice Division, Professor Dr Shahnaj Huda of Dhaka University, Executive Director of MJF Shahin Anam, Programme Co-ordinator Ruma sultana were present, among others.
The speakers said, marginalized and underprivileged sections of the society often become victims of social injustice and despite constitutional rights guaranteeing every citizen equal rights before the law irrespective of poor or affluent, a large number of people remain deprived of justice because of ignorance and financial constraints.
