Govt pursuing uncompromising policy against terrorism, militancy: Dr. Momen
15 March 2015, Nirapad News: Dr AK Abdul Momen, Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN, yesterday said the present government is pursuing uncompromising policy against terrorism and militancy and is fulfilling its commitment to ensure world peace and security.
Dr Momen came up with the observations while addressing a visiting 22-member delegation of the US Army War College at Bangladesh’s permanent mission at the UN. Deputy Commander of the college, Colonel David Funk, led the delegation, an official release said.
“Bangladesh is a peace-loving nation and contributing unimpeachably in establishing world peace,” he said.
Narrating the success stories of the present government in economic and social sector, Dr Momen said, “The government has given emphasis on education and training in its bid to make the huge population as manpower. Women have been empowered economically, socially and politically. The rate of poverty has now come down to 24 percent from 40 percent in 2008.”
Highlighting the Bangladesh’s contribution to the UN peace mission worldwide, Brigadier General AKM Akhtaruzzaman, PSC, defence adviser of the mission, said, “a total of 1,39,295 peacekeepers from Bangladesh accomplished their duties in 54 peace missions throughout the world till now.
Bangladesh has emerged first in contributing to the UN peacekeeping missions throughout 2014 across the globe. A total of 123 Bangladeshi peacekeepers sacrificed their lives in different peace missions so far.”
