Guinea’s president sworn in for 2nd term
15 December 2015, Nirapad News: Guinea’s President Alpha Conde has been sworn in for a second five-year term in a ceremony under heavy military and police security.
Conde’s second term begins weeks before the West African country hopes to mark itself free from Ebola transmission. The deadly disease killed more than 2,500 people in Guinea.
Conde on Monday, before 1,500 people including dignitaries and politicians, dedicated his second term to helping women and children, and fighting corruption.
Rights groups have called on Conde to use his second term to intensify the fight against the impunity of security forces who are accused of abuses.
Conde was re-elected in October in only the second democratic presidential contest since Guinea gained independence from France in 1958. Violence marked the run-up to the poll but eventually subsided.
