Hartal in five districts on Sunday
Nirapad News : BNP-led 20-party alliance has called a daylong hartal for Sunday in five districts (which are Sylhet, Lalmonirhat, Faridpur, Bogra and Patuakhali) protesting the confinement of the party chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office.
The hartal will begin on 6am on Sunday and it will continue till 6pm.
They also called the shutdown protesting the use of pepper spray on Khaleda, banning the publication of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman’s statements and demanding the release of all BNP leaders, including its Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP chief has been kept confined to her Gulshan office since December 3 as she threatened to hold mass rallies in capital to mark ‘Democracy Killing Day’ on January 5, the first anniversary of the last parliamentary polls that her party and its allies boycotted.
On the other hand, on Tuesday afternoon, DB police picked up BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhru Islam Alamgir after his overnight stay inside the Jatiya Press Club due to ‘security concern.’
