Hasina’s courageous role ensures punishment to killers: Mosharraf
15 December 2015, Nirapad News: Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said the war crimes’ trial was possible only because of the determination of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After her return on May 17, 1981 it had been possible to try the killers of Bangabandhu and war criminals, he said.
The minster was speaking at a function organized by the Dhaka Union of Journalists’ (DUJ) at the National Press Club on the occasion of Intellectual Martyrs’ Day.
Others who spoke at the meeting included the treasurer of BFUJ, Khairuzzaman Kamal, and other journalist leaders.
The minister handed over two cheques on behalf of the information ministry to the family members of deceased journalists Monowar Ahmed and Awlad Hossain.
Engineer Mosharraf Hossain recalled that the Pakistani forces and their quislings killed the best minds of the country on the eve of Liberation to cripple the emerging nation.
He said that the conspiracy to destabilize the nation was on and it was important to sustain national unity to face on-going challenges too.
Mosharraf said that the success of Bangladesh has been appreciated by the United States too. Its visiting Under Secretary of State has said that Bangladesh was a model country for many other developing countries.
In another meeting organized by the BFUJ and DUJ, also at the National Press Club, speakers said that the killing on December 14, 1971 was an attempt to deprive the nation of its best minds.
They also expressed satisfaction that the criminals behind the killings had been identified and some of them have been punished while others were awaiting punishment.
The meeting was presided over by DUJ president Elahi Newaz Khan Shaju, secretary of the National Press Club Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, senior journalist Golam Mohiuddin Khan and others.
