HC takes Oishee appeal, suspends fine
07 December 2015, Nirapad News: The High Court (HC) on Monday took cognizance of death row convict Oishee Rahman’s appeal seeking acquittal from the charge of killing her father Special Branch (SB) inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and mother Shapna Rahman.
The court also put a stay order of realizing Tk 40,000 as fine from her.
An HC bench consisting of Justice M Moazzem Hossain and Justice M Badruzzaman accepts the appeal for hearing.
Lawyer Sujit Chatterjee moved for Oishee Rahman in the court.
Earlier on November 12, Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 handed down death sentence to Oishee.
Of the two other accused, Oishee’s friend Asaduzzaman Jony was awarded a two-year jail term for providing shelter to her after the murder and fined Tk 5,000, in default, one month’s jail.
Another friend of Oishee, Mizanur Rahman Rony, was found innocent.
On August 14 of 2013, SB inspector Mahfuzur and his wife Shapna were stabbed to death at their rented flat in city’s Chamelibagh area.
Police recovered their bodies on August 16. On the following day, Oishee, 19, and housemaid Sumi, 15, surrendered at Paltan police station.
Later, Oishee gave a statement saying that she had killed her parents with the help of Sumi.
Investigators also found the involvement of two of her friends Rony and Jony in the murder case. They were arrested later.
However, finally two chargesheets were submitted at the court to rectify the case and solve it with the trial after a lot of dramatic dimensions of the murder case.
