Hearing on Shahadat’s remand petition Thursday
7 October 2015, Nirapad News: A court will hear on Thursday the remand petition filed against Shahadat Hossain, a suspended national cricketer, in a case filed for torturing his domestic help.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Nuru Miah fixed the date on Tuesday when Shafiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, sought a seven-day remand for him.
Earlier, a court on Monday sent Shahadat Hossain to jail after rejecting his bail petition in the case.
Shahadat Hossain surrendered before the court around 10am on Monday and sought bail from the court thorough his lawyer Kazi Mohammad Nazibullah Hiru.
Police arrested Nitto Shahadat, wife of Shahadat Hossain, from Pabna Lane at Malibagh in the capital in connection with the case on Sunday. Later, a court sent her to jail rejecting her bail petition as well as the remand petition by the police.
The court also asked the investigation officer of the case to interrogate Nitto at the jail gate in the next three days, if needed.
On September 6, Mahfuza Akhter Happy, 11, the domestic help of Shahadat’s residence, was found lying injured on a road in Sangbadik Colony area of Pallabi in Dhaka.
Happy claimed that Shahadat Hossain and his wife tortured her. The couple went into hiding after the incident.
On September 7, a journalist named Mojammel Hossain filed a case against Shahadat and her wife with Mirpur Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act-2000.
