HM Ershad bemoans ‘absence’ of democracy
15 March 2015, Nirapad New: Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman HM Ershad on Saturday said democracy is yet to be established in Bangladesh although he stepped down in 1990 for the sake of democracy.
“All political parties only talk about democracy but they’ve failed to establish it in the country till today,”
Ershad said while talking to reporters at his Palli Nibash residence at Darshana in Rangpur city on Saturday afternoon. Venting his anger at the killing of people in arson attacks, the JaPa chief questioned, “What type of democracy and movement is this where common people are being burned to death in the name of hartal and blockade?”
Ershad, also a special envoy to the Prime Minister, reiterated his claim that the country’s people do not want to see two major parties Awami League and BNP in state power. “Rather, they want the Jatiya Party government,” he added.
