Holy Ashura observed in Chittagong
25 October 2015, Nirapad News: The Holy Ashura was observed in Chittagong and its adjacent areas today (Saturday) commemorating the Karbala tragedy in which Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) embraced martyrdom bravely fighting for truth and justice about 1,355 years ago.
On the 10th of Muharram in the Hijri year 61, Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), along with members of his family and followers were brutally killed by the treacherous and heinous soldiers of Yazid at the battle of Karbala on the bank of Euphrates in Iraq.
The members of the Shia community brought out a big procession known as ‘Tazia’ from Anderkilla area in the port city this morning.
The participants in the Tazia processions paraded through the different streets chanting “Hai Hussain, Hai Hussain” repenting the most tragic incident.
In the processions, the Shia Muslims expressed profound grief by flagellating themselves on the back with chains and also beating their heads to demonstrate their deep penance for the sufferings of Imam Hussain (RA).
Many Muslim families in the port city also offered Fateha as a mark of respect to the day.
According to Islamic history, bitter disagreement arose among Muslims on the question of succession after the death of Hazrat Ali, the fourth Caliph of Islam. Failure to find a solution due to deceitful act of Yazid to the problem resulted in the Karbala tragedy.
Imam Hossain (RA) and his followers were most treacherously ambushed by the forces of Yazid during a journey towards Kufa.
They were even deprived of food and water, and many of them were put to death and eventually, Imam Hossain (RA) was brutally murdered.
