Hundreds protest the stabbing of a schoolgirl in Jhenaidah
Nirapad News : A schoolgirl stabbed by an unidentified stalker in Kanchannagar area in Sadar upazila yesterday, is now undergoing treatment at Jhenidah Sadar Hospital.
Victim Mou Akhtar, 13, daughter of Nazrul Islam of Dhopaghata village of the upazila, is a Class VII student at Fazar Ali Secondary School.
Meanwhile, protesting the attack, a few hundred students, teachers and guardians from different schools in the upazila formed a human chain at Paira Chattar intersection in the town and demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the attacker.
They also threatened to go for a tougher movement if the stalker is not arrested in three days time.
Police quoting witnesses said, Mou along with one of her classmates was on the way to school to attend the annual examinations around 9:00am.
When they reached Kanchannagar area, an unidentified youth made some vulgar remarks which embarrassed the girl.
As she protested it vehemently, the youth swooped on her with a knife and stabbed her indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.
Shahabuddin Azad, officer in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Mou suffered serious stab injuries at her hands and legs, adding that they were trying to nab the stalker.
