Hygienic sanitation facilities for all in Rangpur city: Jhantu
04 February 2015, Nirapad News: Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has assured of ensuring hygienic sanitation facilities for all citizens, including slum dwellers, in Rangpur city.
Jhantu said this while inaugurating four newly constructed public sanitary toilets in separate ceremonies at Medical Mour, Robertsonsganj New Relief Camp, TB Hospital Slum and Chhinomukul Slum areas here as the chief guest on Wednesday afternoon.
The City Mayor also inaugurated constriction works of two drainage systems with a view to further improve the drainage and sewerage systems for the socially backyard people living in slum areas of the city.
RCC and “Pollishree’ have been implementing the development works with Oxfam funding under the sustainable water and sewerage facilities for increasing and improving health and sanitation practices of urban slum dwellers project at Taka 40 lakh.
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr Zakir Hossain, Director of Rangpur Medical College Hospital Dr ASM Barkat Ullah, City Panel Mayor Golam Kabir Kajol, City Councilors Akram Hossain, Abdur Razzaque Mandal, Dilara Begum Jafrin Islam Ripa and Manjuri Begum attended the ceremonies as special guests.
Executive Engineer of RCC Azam Ali, Executive Director of “Pollishree’ Shamim Ara Begum and Senior Programme Officer of Oxfam Sharifa Ferdousi addressed the occasions narrating the goals and objectives of the project activities.
While addressing the ceremonies, the City Mayor said massive steps have been taken and necessary infrastructures are being developed to ensure hygienic sanitation facilities for all citizens, pedestrians, slum dwellers and the people coming daily to the city.
He called upon every citizen for playing their due role in maintaining cleanliness and hygienic condition in all public toilet premises in the city for ensuring improved civic amenities side by side improving environment.
