Ijtema devotees suffer due to rain

Dhaka, Jan 17, 2015 Nirapad News : Drizzle occurred in the last night that also continued till Saturday morning caused immense sufferings to several lakh devotees thronged at the second day of second phase of the 50th Biswa Ijtema on the bank of Turag River in Tongi, outskirts of the capital, today.

Defying continuous blockade enforced by the 20-party alliance, several lakh musollis of the rest 32 south and south-eastern districts of the country have participated at the 2nd day of the second phase ijtema this year which would end after the ‘Akheri Munazat’ on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the second phase of three-day Biswa Ijtema started with a sermon by India’s Mawlana Md Ismail on Friday morning. The first phase of Biswa Ijtema was held between January 9-11.

Talking about overall security measures at the Ijtema ground, Harun-ur-Rashid, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Gazipur district, told BSS that five-tier security measures have been taken on the Ijtema ground.

Besides deployment of additional police forces, the Ijtema ground and its adjacent areas also being come under patrolling by the helicopter and deployment of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to beef up security measures for the musollies.

On the second day of the Ijtema, peoples are being acutely suffered from cold and water due to continuous drizzle from last night inundated the surface of the Ijtema ground.

Under the situation, the top leaders of the Tablig Jamaat had already sat in a meeting to take further decision on how to face the drizzle like catastrophic situation.

Meanwhile, four Musollies, who came to attend the second phase of Ijtema have died due to old age complications during the last two days. Three of them have been identified as Md Billal Hossain from Patuakhali, Md Abdul Kuddus, 60 of Lakhipur Sadar Upazila and Abdur Rahman, 65, of Bogra’s Shahjahanpur.

The fourth could not be identified. The Biswa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of Muslims after Hajj, is being held in two phase since 2011 due to lack of space.
