Independence Day being celebrated in Rangpur
26 March 2016, Nirapad News: The Independence and National Day is being celebrated today with a renewed pledge for building a poverty-free developed Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Awami League (AL), its associate bodies, political parties and other organisations have been celebrating the Day through various programmes.
The observance began through heralding 31 gun salutes and placing of wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar, Swadhinota Smritistambha `Arjan’ and monuments of martyred freedom fighters (FFs) in the city at the zero hours.
City Mayor and valiant FF Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu first placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar at the zero hours.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed, DIG Humayun Kabir and Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar and high officials placed wreaths at Swadhinota Smritistambha `Arjan’ at Modern Mour area in the city.
Leaders of AL and its associate bodies, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, BNP, Jatiya Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Gano Forum, Ganotantry Party, Workers Party, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh and other political leaders placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar.
Leaders and activists of Rangpur Chamber, Ainjibi Samity, District Corruption Prevention Committee, Shop Owners’ Association, different organisations of the journalists, Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote, Rangpur Shahittya Sangskritik Parishad, Shilpokola Academy, Nattya Kendra, Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi, Nattya Chakra, Rangpur Theater, Rangpur Betar, NGOs and other originations placed wreaths there.
The national flag was hoisted atop all of the government, semi- government, private and public buildings, educational and other institutions and organisations and receptions were accorded to the valiant FFs and family members of martyred FFs.
The Divisional Commissioner hoisted the National Flag and took salute in the colourful march pasts displayed by freedom fighters, police, Ansar and VDP, BNCC, fire service and civil defense, students, child and adolescents’ organisations, jail guards, Bangladesh Scouts, Rover Scouts and Girl Guides at Rangpur Stadium.
The District Information Office screened documentary films and competitions on drawing for children on independence, sports competitions arranged and cultural functions, discussion meetings and prize distribution ceremonies were organized.
The main streets and roadside islands were decorated with the national flag, colourful posters and miniatures, the government buildings and buildings of the other organisations illuminated since last evening giving the city eye-catching looks.
Shooting, drawing competitions for children on the War of Liberation, Independence, charity football match, competitions, cultural functions, prize distribution ceremonies and discussion meetings were organised at different venues.
Special prayers were offered at all mosques, temples, pagodas and churches and improved diets served to inmates of the hospitals, jails, vagabond centers, ‘Shishu Paribar’ and orphanages.
Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes and local dailies, weekly and monthly published special supplements today glorifying the importance and dignity of the Independence and National Day.
Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital (RCMCH) in association with Dr Mafiz Uddin Foundation arranged a daylong blood donation camp along with other day-long programmes at the RCMCH campus in the city in observance of the Day.
The Day was also observed through colorful programmes at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Medical College, Carmichael College, Begum Rokeya Government College and other educational institutions in the city.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed will attend the main discussion, prize distribution ceremony and cultural functions at the Central Shaheed Minar and Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar will preside the programme evening.
