International Day of Older Persons observed in Faridpur

02 October 2015, Nirapad News: International Day of Older Persons, a part of the global program, was observed here today in a befitting manner through holding rallies and discussion meeting organized by Faridpur unit of Bangladesh Prabin Hitaishy Sangha in cooperation of district administration, Social Service department and NGOs.
A rally was held participated by a large number of senior citizens who are above sixty years of age, government officials and NGO people walked though the streets.
The rally was followed by discussion meeting held in the conference room of DC of Faridpur.
The discussion meeting was chaired by Dr M A Jalil while DC Sardar Sharafat Ali was the chief guest.
The DC in his brief speech stressed the need for utilizing the experiences of the elderly persons for marching forward to bring welfare and progress of the country.
The discussion was also addressed, among others, by ADC(gen) Md. Abdur Rashid, and educationist Prof. Md. Shahjahan, DD of Social Services department ASM Ali Ahsan, Prabin Hitaishi Sangha secretary Prof. Md. Abdus Samad.
The speakers demanded a dignified behavior and treatment from the society because they have crossed their valuable part of their life for the welfare of the society. They do not like to be ignored by any body. They also congratulated present government for recognizing them as ‘senior citizens’ and demanded its immediate implementation in all spheres of life.
A musical soiree was also held at the end of the discussion meeting. Retired school teacher Md. Abdul Latif who is 95 years old was the most elderly person present in the meeting.
