International forests day to be observed today
21 March 2015, Nirapad News: International Day of Forests would be observed today across the country as elsewhere in the globe with the theme “Forests, Climate, Change”.
To mark the day, Ministry of Environment and Forests has chalked out week-long programmes. As part of the programmes, a discussion meeting would be held at the Ban Bhaban in city’s Agargaon where Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju, MP would be present as chief guest, told the Chief Conservator of Forest M Yunus Ali.
Environment and Forests Secretary (In-charge) Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed would chair the meeting.
Besides, a photo exhibition has been going on at Ban Bhaban from March 18. Best photograph would receive the award today after the discussion meeting.
In addition, Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI) has organized a round table meeting to build awareness to save the environment from vulnerability, said BFRI director Dr Shaheen Akhter.
The International Day of Forests, the 21st day of March, was established by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012.
