Inu for creating awareness about BD’s climate risks
21 May 2015, Nirapad News: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said Bangladesh is faced with risks due to adverse impact of climate change and called for creating mass awareness to cope with the situation.
“We want due compensation from the developed countries for the losses owing to climate change,” he said this while inaugurating a documentary titled ‘Climate Risk in Dhaka: Children’s Thoughts at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Sagar-Runi auditorium here.
The information minister said politicians bring out processions for realizing their rights but no processions are seen to demand for facing the challenges of climate change. He urged all concerned to take to the streets to compel the developed nations for giving adequate compensation.
Inu said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina turned the climate change issue into an important one at home and abroad while Bangladesh’s ability to face the risks of climate change has been acclaimed globally due to pragmatic steps of the present government.
The minister said more documentaries should be made for creating awareness to face the risks of climate change and earthquakes.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission Director Dr Khaza Shamsul Huda presided over the function which was addressed, among others, by Dhaka South City Corporation Chief Waste Management Officer and journalist Pronab Saha.
