Islami Chhatra Shibir activist shot
03 February 2015, Nirapad: An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, named Sayem was shot in police firing on a procession in Japani Bazar area at the city’s Shanir Akhra on Tuesday morning.
Sayem is a master’s student of the Social Science Department at Dhaka College, said Jamal Uddin, assistant publicity secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police Station Abdus Salam Miah said a group of Shibir activists brought out a procession in the area at about 7:30 am.
Police tried to disperse the Shibir men and a chase and counter-chase took place between them and the activists.
At one stage, police opened fire on the procession, leaving Sayem injured with bullets.
Later, police arrested Sayem while his associates managed to flee the scene.
Injured Sayem was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) under police custody.
