Italian citizen Tavella Cesare murder, Matin remanded further for 5 days
14 November 2015, Nirapad News: A Dhaka court on Friday placed BNP leader’s brother M A Matin on a 5-day remand to further grill him in connection with the murder of Italian citizen Tavella Cesare.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abdullah Al Masud passed the order when investigation officer of DB SI Zihad Hossain produced Matin before the CMM court, seeking a 7-day remand more. On November 5, Matin was remanded eight days.
According to the remand prayer, Matin needs to be remanded further to unearth the real motive behind the murder.
Matin, one of the suspects in the murder of Italian citizen, was arrested by police on November 4 at Benapole while he was attempting to cross the border to enter India.
Matin is the younger brother of Dhaka Mohanagar BNP joint convener M A Qayum who was also a former ward commissioner.
Italian citizen Tavella Cesare, a Netherlands-based NGO officer, was shot dead at Diplomatic zone in Gulshan on September 28.
In connection with the murder, four persons were arrested by Detectives Branch on October 26.
Of them, Tamjid Ahmed Rubel, Minhazul Arefin Rusel and Shakawat Hossain alias Sharif have given confessional statements in the court.
In the confessional statments, Russel said Cesare was killed following instructions of Qayum’s brother M A Matin. Matin promised to give Tk 5 lakh to carry out the murder.
