War crimes tribunal in Dhaka is set to deliver its verdict against former Jatiya Party lawmaker Mohammad Abdul Jabbar.

23 February 2015, Nirapad News: A war crimes tribunal in Dhaka is set to deliver its verdict on Tuesday in a case against former Jatiya Party lawmaker Mohammad Abdul Jabbar.

Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Chairman of the three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1, fixed the date on Monday morning.

The prosecution has brought five war crimes charges against Jabbar.

The accused, chairman of local unit of Peace Committee during the 1971 Liberation War, has been fugitive since 2009.

On July 8, the tribunal appointed Mohammad Abul Hassan as counsel to defend the fugitive accused. On May 12, the tribunal issued arrest warrant against Jabbar, a former Jatiya Party MP, after taking the charges into cognizance.

Jabbar, 82, faces allegations of murder, genocide, forced conversion and looting during the war.
