Jamaat-e-Islami’s Thakurgaon chief arrested on multiple charges
17 August 2015, Nirapad News: Police has nabbed Jamaat-e-Islami’s Thakurgaon district chief Md Abdul Hakim from his residence on a number of charges including the murder of an electoral presiding officer.
A joint team of police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) raided Haziparha area of the district town around 1:30am on Monday and arrested him, Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station’s OC Mehedi Hasan said.
The police official said the Jamaat leader was wanted in a dozen of cases for mayhem, assault on police and the murder of an assistant presiding officer during the polls on Jan 5 last year.
Hakim has been in hiding and police raided his house based on a tip off that he was there, Hasan said.
Hakim’s wife Jakia Zabeen told bdnews24.com, “Six police and BGB vehicles surrounded the house around 1:30am. They entered the house led by the OC and then took him away.”
