Janakantha editor, executive editor fined
13 August 2015, Nirapad News: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday fined Tk 10,000 to ‘Dainik Janakantha’ editor Atiquallah Khan Masud and executive editor Swadesh Roy each after finding them guilty in contempt of court charge.
Besides, they will have to stay at the courtroom till the end of its Thursday’s proceedings.
A six-member larger bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice (CJ) SK Sinha, passed the verdict after finding them guilty of the charge.
On July 16, the daily published an article that raised questions how the family members of convicted war criminal met Supreme Court’s judges.
The article written by Swadesh Roy, headlined ‘Activities of SQ family: Escape Route Narrowed’.
After upholding the death penalty of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, a four-member Appellate Division bench, led by the CJ, issued the order asking ‘Janakantha’ editor and its executive editor to explain about it.
