Jhantu calls for eliminating child labour

26 November 2015, Nirapad News: Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has called for taking comprehensive steps by all concerned stakeholders to eliminate child labour to turn every child into worthy citizen.
Jhantu, also a valiant freedom fighter, made the call while presiding over tri-monthly advisory committee meeting of the ‘Child Labour Elimination NAction for Real Change in Urban Areas of Rangpur City Corporation and Thakurgaon Municipality of Northwestern Bangladesh (CLEAR)’ project at RCC auditorium on Wednesday.
The Eco Social Development Organisation (ESDO) in association with RCC and Thakurgaon Municipality has been implementing the project in Rangpur city and Thakurgaon town with financial assistance of Manusher Janno Foundation.
Member-secretary of the committee and Chief Executive Officer of RCC Ruhul Amin Khan, its Secretary Fazlul; Kabir, Divisional Deputy Director of the Directorate of Primary Education Mohiuddin Ahmed Talukder, addressed, among others.
Monitoring & Advocacy Officer for CLEAR project of ESDO Mostafa Kalam and its Coordinator Mahbubul Haque discussed on progress report of the project in the meeting participated by all RCC Councilors and ESDO-CLEAR project representatives.
The participants put emphasis on proper implementation of the project in all 33 wards of RCC to ensure education, safety and security of working children through eliminating hazardous child labour to turn every child into and enlightened and worthy citizen.
The City Mayor highly appreciated the set goals, objectives and progress of the CLEAR project and thanked ESDO authority for including Rangpur City Corporation in the project in turning Rangpur into a city free from hazardous child labour.
Later, he distributed newsletter ‘Shoishob’ (adolescence) published by the CLEAR project among the participants and asked them to play due role in eliminating hazardous labour from the city for ensuing safety and security of all working children.
