JU ‘Chhatra League attacks’ Chhatra Jote program
12 May 2015, Nirapad News: Ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has allegedly attacked a program of a student front at the Jagannath University (JnU).
‘Pragatishil Chhatra Jote’ (progressive students’ alliance) was observing a sit-in demonstration as part of the Chhatra Union’s strike at educational institutions protesting against police attack on a march against sexual assault on Sunday.
The alliance claimed four of its activists had been injured in Tuesday’s attack but the BCL’s JnU unit rejected the allegation.
Chhatra Front’s President Masud Rana said the alliance’s activists had positioned themselves in front of the university gate in the morning as part of their program.
He claimed Chhatra League’s university unit chief Shariful Islam’s supporters, led by its International Affairs Secretary Nur Ruhul, attacked the Jote activists around 8 am.
Chhatra Front’s Office Secretary ‘Prasenjit’, Publicity Secretary ‘Krishna’, ‘Soumit’ and another student was injured in the attack, Rana alleged. However, BCL’s JnU unit chief Islam trashed the allegations.
“The general students were trying to unlock the gate to take part in classes and sit for examinations. No Chhatra League activist was there,” he claimed.
JnU acting Proctor Nur Mohammad declined comment on the incident.
