Khaleda Zia appoints lawyer for Dandy Dyeing case

18 May 2015, Nirapad News: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia appointed lawyer Joynul Abedin Mezbah to fight Dandy Dyeing Ltd loan default case.
The first money loan court Judge Fatema Ferdous also fixed June 30 to submit Khaleda’s response and form issue in response to the time plea of defendant’s lawyer.
The BNP chief’s younger son late Arafat Rahman Koko was the main accused in the case filed by state-owned Sonali Bank over a loan default amounting Tk 45 crores.
As Koko died on January 25, the court made accused Khaleda, Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman and two daughters Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman, who are now in Malaysia.
Sonali Bank’s lawyer Jahangir Hossain, plaintiff’s lawyer Advocate Hosne Ara Begum also participated in the hearing on Sunday.
On March 8, Sonali Bank’s senior executive officer Nazrul Islam filed a petition in the court seeking its order to include Khaleda Zia, Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman and his daughters Jahiya Rahman, Jafiya Rahman as defendants of the case as inheritors.
Kheleda’s eldest son and also Dandy Dyeing director Tarique Rahman is also a defendant.
Dandy Dying took a loan of Tk 13.14-crore from Sonali Bank on May 9, 1993. The bank waived interests following an application by the defendants on October 16, 2001.
On October 2, 2012, Sonali Bank filed the case against Tarique Rahman, Arafat Rahman Koko and others as the defendants for their failure in repaying the loan.
The other defendants include Dandy Dying directors Giasuddin Al Mamun, his wife Shahina Begum, Nasrin Iskander, wife of late Sayeed Iskander, his sons Shams Iskander and Shafin Iskander and daughter Sumaiya Iskander, Gazi Galib Abdus Sattar, Shamsun Nahar and Masud Hassan.
