16 March 2015, Nirapad News : BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife and his two daughters are to face trial in a case of loan default by Dandy Dyeing Limited involving a sum of over Tk 455 million. Dhaka’s First Money Loan Court issued the order on Monday following a move by state-owned Sonali Bank Limited. The court fixed April 12 as the next date of hearing. The bank’s lawyer, Zahangir Alam, said they had appealed for naming the four as defendants in the case, as Khaleda’s son Arafat Rahman Koko had died in Malaysia in January this year. “The heirs of a defendant in a loan default case can be substituted if the defendant dies,” he said. Koko was a director of Dandy Dyeing Limited. Apart from his mother, the other three new accused are Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman Sithi and daughters Zahia Rahman and Zafia Rahman. Sithi and her daughters went back to Malaysia after Koko’s funeral and burial in Dhaka in January. Koko, along with his family, had been living in Malaysia for about 6 years despite conviction by a Bangladesh court in a money laundering case. Khaleda Zia is already facing an arrest warrant in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases. The Anti Corruption Commission also recently moved court and resumed the proceedings of the GATCO and Barapukuria coal mine graft cases against the former prime minister. A Dhaka court on Monday asked Khaleda to appear before iton April 13 in the Barapukuria coal mine case. The bank filed the loan default case on Oct 2, 2013, accusing the defendants of defaulting on a loan of Tk 455,937,295
