Krishi Katha needs to be modernized: Matia

10 May 2015, Nirapad News:  Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury today underscored the need for transforming the ‘Krishi Katha’, the only farm related monthly magazine of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), into an e-service journal to enrich farmers with updated information and knowledge about agriculture.

The minister asked the persons concerned to modernize the print publication introducing online version to ensure an easy access to the journal by people particularly farmers.

Matia Chowdhury said this while inaugurating a seminar arranged on the occasion of 75 years of publication of the Krishi Katha as chief guest at city’s Khamarbari.

Agriculture Information Service (AIS), a wing of the DAE, organized the function with Agriculture Secretary Shaymal Kanti Gosh in the chair.

Describing 75 years of uninterrupted publication of the Krishi Katha as a praiseworthy matter, the minister said the magazine is playing an important role in enriching the knowledge of farmers about diversified crop production.

Mohammad Mokbul Hossain, MP, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, attended the seminar as special guest and Krishibid Sheikh Hemayet Hossain, acting director general of the DAE, was guest of honour.

Referring to a rapid transformation of the agriculture sector with new innovations and technologies, the minister said the agricultural magazine must introduce e-service so that anyone can have access to it through the Internet.

Talking about the Vision 2021, Matia Chowdhury said we have to set a target of development in the agriculture sector for the next 20 years in compliance with the vision,” the minister added.

AIS Director Krishibid Mizanur Rahman presented a keynote paper at the function.

Earlier, the agriculture minister distributed crests among senior agriculture officials of the department at the function.
