Kuakata passing critical times, Tourism suffers

4 February 2015, Nirapad News: Kuakata, one of the most popular place to travelers is passing critical times ever due to hartal and blockade programmes called by BNP and its allies. As a result this buzzing tourism sector is facing serious financial losses.
Kuakata was crowded with the presence of numerous tourists, who came to visit during the recent Christmas, new-year celebrations and weekly holidays.
But in the last several days, the main tourist destination is experiencing an acute scarcity of tourists due to political programmes, particularly hartal and blockade called by BNP and its allies.
President of Kuakata Hotel-Motel, Guest House Owners’ Association Md. Motaleb Sharif said, there are one hundred hotels and motels in Kuakata.
Seventy per cent of the hotels and motels remained vacant in the recent days. As a result, the owners of the hotels and motels are incurring huge losses.
He also said, their hotels are faced with the problems of scarcity of guests. The government-run hotels and motels under Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation are also incurring losses, he further said.
Tribal Rakhain Cooperative Markets authority said there was no movement of any kind of transports to and from the town due to blockade. They have incurred losses of about Taka six lakh in the last few days.
