Land minister for women’s participation in country building
19 March 2016, Nirapad News: Land Affairs Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, MP, today urged the women to obtain higher education to ensure their active participation in overall development of the country.
“Educated women can play a very significant role in nation building activities,” he said while speaking a fresher reception programme at Ishwardi Women’s Degree College here.
The minister said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to ensure women empowerment, development and establish their rights in many ways.
Citing instances of women participation in all sectors including Army, Navy, Air Force, police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Sheirf said the women are showing an outstanding performance everywhere in Bangladesh and even outside the country.
He called upon all concerned of the educational institutions to ensure quality education to produce more skilled manpower in line with the standard of other developed countries of the world.
Principal Afroza Begum presided over the programme. Among others, former lawmaker Monjur Rahman Biswas, local municipality mayor Abul Kalam Azad, Upazila panel chairman Mahjabeen Shirin Pia, local leaders Mustafizur Rahman, Khan Kamal, Mahfuzur Rahman, Barrister Syed Ali Jiku and lecturer Mohammad Ismail Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, the minister laid the foundation stone of three-storey building of the college at the cost of Taka 1.36 crore.
