‘Law minister is not our authority’
16 August 2015, Nirapad News: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs minister Anisul Huq earlier on August 12 categorically said the charge sheet of Rajon murder case will be submitted within 72-hour.
The aforementioned time-limit ended on Friday though the charge sheet was not submitted till Saturday (August 15) noon.
Terming law minister as not the authority of police, additional deputy-commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Rahmat Ullah said, “SMP commissioner is now in Dhaka. How can we give charge sheet? We will inform the media whenever it is given”.
He further said you (journalists) should seek comments from home minister as he is our authority.
“Law minister is not our authority,” he added.
The SMP spokesperson also said the chargesheet will be given within a short time.
Rahmat Ullah also said he received so many phone calls after the comment by law minister.
IO (investigation officer) of the case Suranjit Talukder, also Officer-in-charge (OC) of SMP detective branch, said they were working harder to submit the chargesheet quickly.
Additional commissioner of SMP SM Rukan Uddin said they had completed around 99 percent task of investigation. The delay was due to sending documents to Saudi Arabia.
According to him, the papers were on hold for 20 days there.
He, however, declined to comment on whether chief accused Qamrul will be brought back to Bangladesh.
