Lithuania opens embassy in Dhaka
19 May 2015, Nirapad News: Bangladesh state minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam inaugurated the embassy of Lithuania in city. The inaugural ceremony was held at Radisson Blu on Monday night.
Embassy of the north-eastern European state belonging to European Union has been established in city’s Shewrapara area.
The state minister said that diplomatic tie between Bangladesh and Lithuania was established in 1992. Since then the two countries have been maintaining trade relations too.
He informed the audience saying that Bangladesh has been importing dairy products, apparel, cotton and engineering materials and exporting knitwear, footwear, leather, handicrafts, toys and cigarettes to the Baltic country.
Bangladesh has been exporting goods worth of 3.5 million USD and importing 6 million USD for past three years.
Shahriar hoped that the establishment of embassy will strengthen both diplomatic and trade ties among the two friendly countries.
Lithuania’s Bangladesh embassy consulate general Laimonas Talat-Kelpša, ruling Awami League’s liberation war affairs secretary Captain (retd) AB Tajul Islam, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser Inam Ahmed Chowdhury and diplomats, among others, were present at the inaugural ceremony.
