Make income tax act effective to boost revenue: Anisul
07 February 2015, Nirapad News: An easy, time-befitting and generally acceptable income tax act will help accelerate
revenue collection and expedite the economic prospects, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq
said on Sunday.
Drawing attention of tax authorities to this issue, the minister also suggested making all tax related rules and
regulations available in Bangla so people can understand those easily and act accordingly without going through the
hassle of language barrier.
The minister was addressing as the chief guest at a consultation meeting on “Formulation of Tax Payers Friendly and
Business Friendly Income Tax Act” at National Board of Revenue (NBR) headquarters in the city. NBR organised the
meeting with its Chairman M Nojibur Rahman in the chair.
Anisul noted that the situation has improved a lot with increasing number of people from both urban and rural areas
paying taxes every year. So, he observed that enacting a new and easier law would help mobilise more revenue if the
rules and regulations are easily understandable and practicable without facing any hassles.
Nojibur Rahman said the new income tax law is being formulated taking suggestions from all stakeholders, and the NBR
has been working relentlessly to make a simple and understandable income tax act.
“If you want to go fast, go alone; and if you want to go far, go together. So we want to go far together,” he added.
He thanked all for their valuable suggestions and hoped that these would play a vital role in making the law
taxpayers-friendly following international best practices.
Among others, NBR Member (Custom) M Farid Uddin spoke on the occasion.
