24 November 2017, Nirapad News: A man who was under police detention was killed in what the police called a gunfight with them in capital’s Khilgaon in the early hours of Friday.

Police claimed that the victim, Billal Hossain, was a member of an inter-district robber gang and accused in 10 cases including robbery.

Police’s Khilgaon division senior assistant commissioner Nadia Jui said Billal was arrested in connection with the cases.

The police officer claimed that the gunfight took place at Shekher Jaiga of Khilgaon around 2:00am Friday when a police team went there along with Billal Hossain to nab his associates.

She said Billal was shot in the gun battle ensued when his associates opened fire at police and police retaliated in self-defense. Billal was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

The police version of the event was, however, not verified independently as no account of it was available immediately either from any witness or from any of the victim’s relatives.

According to the police claim, three members of police sustained injuries in the gun battle and are undergoing treatment at Rajarbagh Police Lines hospital.
