Many farmers tortured during BNP government: Amu
08 November 2015, Nirapad News: Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu today said that 18 farmers were killed during the period of BNP government for demanding fertilizer.
“Farmers wanted fertilizer for food production. But Khaleda Zia gave them bullets,” he said while addressing as the chief guest at a function to distribute seeds and fertilizer among farmers at Jhalokati Sadar Upazila Complex in the district.
Amu said during the tenure of present government the food production became surplus.
“Bangladesh exported 50-thousand metric tons of food grains to Sri Lanka,” he said.
The minister said 11 lakh metric tons of food grains were reserved at the time of Awami Lesague’s handing over of power in 2001.
Upazila Chairman of Jhalakhati Sadar Upazila M Sultan Hossain Khan presided over the function while Deputy Commissioner Rabindra Sri Barua, and Additional Superintendent of Police Abdur Rakib attended, among others, on the occasion.
Seeds, fertilizer and other agro-equipment were distributed in the function.
