Massive agri-rehabilitation programmes in Rangpur region
6 October 2015, Nirapad News: The government has taken massive post-flood agriculture rehabilitation programs at 10.17 crore in three flood-hit districts on the Brahmaputra basin under Rangpur Agriculture Region, officials said today.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) will distribute huge seed and fertilizers for cultivating Rabi crops among over 1.20 lakh flood-hit farmers of Rangpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram districts to recoup the crop losses during recent floods.
After getting the post-flood government assistance in terms of seed and fertilisers, each of the beneficiary farmers will soon begin cultivation of these early varieties Rabi crops on one bigha of land each.
Under the programme, the flood-hit farmers will get cost-free seed, Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MoP) for cultivating early Rabi crops like wheat, maize, mustard, potato and mungbean.
The government has allocated 484 tonnes wheat seed worth Taka 1.64 crore for distribution among 24,200 flood-hit farmers with 20 Kg each to assist them for cultivation of the crop on one bigha land by each in these
Under the programme, 25.058 tonnes maize seed worth Taka 75.17 lakh has been allocated for distribution among 12,529 flood-affected framers of these districts with 2 kg each for cultivation of crop on one bigha land by each of the beneficiary farmers.
A total of 81,600 flood-hit farmers will get 81,600 kg mustard seed with one kg each for cultivation of the crop on one bigha land where the standing crops were totally damaged during the recent floods.
Some 1,000 flood-affected farmers of Kurigram and Gaibandha districts will get 80 tonnes potato seed worth Taka 20.80 lakh with 80 kg each for cultivation of the crop on one bigha land each.
Besides, the government has allocated five tonnes mungbean seed worth Taka three lakh for distribution among 1,000 farmers of Rangpur and Kurigram districts with 5 kg each for cultivation of the crop on one bigha land each.
Under the programme, each of the beneficiary farmers will get 20 kg DAP and 20 MoP fertilisers for cultivation of wheat on one bigha land, 20 kg DAP and 10 kg MoP for maize cultivation on one bigha land.
Besides, each of them will get 20 kg DAP and 10 kg MoP for mustard cultivation on one bigha land, 10 kg DAP and 10 kg MoP for cultivation of potato on one bigha land and 10 kg DAP and 10 kg MoP for cultivation of mungbean on one bigha land.
With these assistance, a total of 1,20,329 flood-affected farmers, including 11,299 farmers of Rangpur, 45,080 of Gaibandha and 63,950 farmers of Kurigram districts will be benefited in recouping the crop losses they incurred during the recent floods.
Talking to BSS, Additional Director of the DAE for Rangpur Agriculture Region Md Saiful Islam said the distribution process will complete soon to assist the affected farmers in recouping the huge crop losses they incurred during recent floods.
Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has already taken preparations for supplying the allocated quantity of seed and fertilisers for distribution by the DAE among the flood-hit farmers in these districts.
The process of preparation of lists of the actually flood-affected farmers has been nearing completion for distribution of the allocated seed and fertilisers among the farmers ensuring complete transparency in the whole process, he added.
