Media urged to play responsible role in strengthening democracy
08 December 2015, Nirapad News: Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today urged both print and electronic media to play responsible role in strengthening democracy in the country.
“Media should project objective news to the people for strengthening further parliamentary democracy in the country,” she told a function in the auditorium of the Jatiya Press Club(JPC) on the occasion of 15th founding anniversary of Dhaka Sub-Editors Council(DSEC).
Prime Minister’s Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, JPC President Shafiqur Rahman, Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation Sarafuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Acting Editor of the daily Ittefaq Tasmima Hossain and Chairman of Land Reforms Board Md Mahfuzur Rahman, among others, addressed the function with President of DSEC Nasima Aktar in the chair.
Dr Shirin said, “Democracy and media are synonymous and media has a strong role to play in building public opinions. So both print and electronic media must play their due role through disseminating objective news to create public opinions in favor of democracy.”
She also stressed the need for enhancing professional efficiency with acquiring knowledge on different disciplines to supplement the efforts for building an economically prosper Bangladesh.
