Medical college admission seekers stage a sit-in in Shahbagh Intersection
4 October 2015, Nirapad News: Medical college admission seekers gathered in Dhaka’s Shahbagh on Sunday morning and at one stage, blocked Shahbagh Intersection halting traffic in the whole area.
Witnesses said a group of medical admission seekers staged a sit-in in Shahbagh Intersection to press their demand of rearranging fresh test for medical admission.
Besides staging street protest, a 7-member team of students started for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Tejgaon in the afternoon to place their memorandum.
In the morning, the agitating students organised a sit-in on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar near Dhaka Medical College Hospital in support of their demands.
Students of Dhaka Medical College, Sir Salimullah Medical College, Suhrawardi Medical College, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka University, Chittagong University and other institutions expressed their solidarity to the movement.
Leaders of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, which joined the medical students’ movement, said 7 of the protesting aspirants went to the PMO in the afternoon to submit memorandum to the prime minister.
The blockade will be withdrawn from Shahbagh Intersection when the 7 aspirants return after submitting the memo to the PM.
