11 October 2015, Nirapad News:  Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman on Saturday opined that ‘Meena’ is a necessary character to uproot malpractices like bribery, corruption and other irregularities from society.

He also highly praised the lead role saying that the cartoon is screened to spread children’s education, stop early marriages and abolish the gender gap.

The minister was addressing a program, organized by the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE), to observe ‘Meena Dibas-2015’ at LGED auditorium in city’s Agargaon area.

He also said due to some unavoidable reasons ‘Meena’ day could not be observed on September 24 as of the previous years.

This year’s theme was, never make a mistake by arranging female child marriage rather treat everyone as a flower.

Mostafizur Rahman also highlighted the successes of Bangladeshi women including that of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

He also urged the teachers to teach students with more rigor and sincerity.

DPE director general M Alamgir chaired the program, addressed by UNICEF, Bangladesh country office representative Edouard Beigbeder and additional secretary of the ministry concerned Abdul Jalil.

Beigbeder praised the 25-year long effort of Meena cartoon in fields of gender discrimination, sanitary health, child education and child marriage, to name a few.
