Mir Quasem Ali’s appeal comes on SC cause list for Tuesday
01 February 2015, Nirapad News: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to hear the appeal on Tuesday filed by Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali, challenging the death sentence handed down to him by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1.
The appeal matter was seen at number 6 on the cause list of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
The Apex Court on January 6 set February 2 for hearing the appeal.
A four-member Appellate Division panel headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha set the date accepting a time prayer by the defence on that day.
The now defunct ICT-2 on November 2, 2014, sentenced Ali, also believed to be the treasurer of Jamaat, to death as it found him guilty of 10 charges out of the total 14.
Ali, infamously known as ‘Bangali Khan’ during 1971, lodged appeal with the Supreme Court on November 30, 2014. His advocate-on-record Joynul Abedin Tuhin sought acquittal of Ali from the charges, citing 181 grounds.
