Mobile banking impacting financial inclusion
22 December 2015, Nirapad News: A half-day national seminar on the role of mobile banking in financial inclusion was held on Monday at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) in the capital.
A paper titled ‘Impact of Mobile Banking on Financial Inclusion in Bangladesh’ was presented at the seminar by BIBM Associate Prof Mahbubur Rahman Alam. Other members of the team were BIBM Associate Prof Shihab Uddin Khan and BIBM Associate Prof Kaniz Rabbi, according to a BIBM press release.
The major objectives of the paper are to understand the impact of mobile banking on financial inclusion in Bangladesh including current status, progress, regulations, available products and their characteristics, agent network size and geographical coverage, and the competitive landscape.
Another objective of the seminar is to have a better understanding of how people are using both traditional and mobile financial services including users’ satisfaction.
The paper will be finalised after accommodating suggestions and comments from designated discussants and participants of the research workshop.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Nazneen Sultana attended the program as chief guest while a large number of high officials of different banks also participated in the seminar.
